The public holidays calendar for 2017 was released by the Ministry of Manpower today (April 5).
Mark your calendars for the seven long weekends in 2017:
1. New Year's Day: Jan 1, 2017, Sunday. The next day, Jan 2, 2017, is a public holiday.
2. Chinese New Year: Jan 28, 29, 2017, Saturday and Sunday. The next day, Jan 30, 2017, is a public holiday.
3. Good Friday: April 14, 2017, Friday.
4. Labour Day: May 1, 2017, Monday.
5. Hari Raya Puasa: June 25, 2017, Sunday. The next day, June 26, 2017, is a public holiday.
6. Hari Raya Haji: Sept 1, 2017, Friday.
7. Christmas: Dec 25, 2017, Monday.
Under the employment act, any employee who works on a public holiday is entitled to an extra day's salary at the basic rate of pay. The public holiday may also be substituted for another working day.
Managers or executives earning up to a basic monthly salary of $4,500 may also get a time-off-in-lieu for working on a public holiday.
