Amazing handycalc

I have download HandyCalc for number of days until now

This is handy Calculator really awesome after I view his website
While I post few questions to him

Tu YiMing, a civil colleague student at Shanghai University build this calculator since 14April 2008
You can do calculation of
Now - 14.April, 2008 =
no of days after it was invented
(on the handy calc)

If you still not impressed, download and try it
It can be very complex for new user

I am still learning how to use it as a programmable calculator

But once you know there is a lot of help when press the Menu key
(There are tutorial on calc and lesson on YouTube ...)

Too bad it is not on open source
(could be he still earning a lot and do not want other to mess up with it)

Either he has ported to iphone

Anyway, it is a excellant application and hope he has time to further improve on it

turn off 2G/3G

I have downloaded one other application
then last night I download this APNdroid together with Dolphin browser
I did try for a while and I turn 3G off and forgot about it and sleep
I uninstall and remove the other 2G/3G widget

Next day, I only start to realised there is NO data network connection
I struggle to find out how
I even suspect the Dolphin browser
Then I call up telcos Singtel to reset my Data and GPRS network
Worst I call up HTC and the poor gal on the other end can not help me at all

I take me 2 hours later that I saw this application among all applications
When I run it, the 3G/EDGE/GPRS is turn off !!
Oh my ! I turn it on and goto his website

The good thing is that there is definitely works when I go oversea at year end

But I have struggled and desperated for the whole morning of Christmas Eve

I m full in charge of power

In the morning 3am I put HTC full charge with handphone.
Then I do the calibrating again.
On the seocnd stage I got record that battery run at 4197
but it drop to 4160 when I wake up to check at 9am

So I use the other method to balance the battery.
After take in and out charging cable for 30 times

I on the handphone at 1pm and start recording for today comsumption

too bad overcharge recording 4177 99% after 10min uptime
with change of scene

portable mobile battery pad

The possibility of hp battery flat and drain off drive me to find a economical battery charger.

Last time I use those AAA battery charger.
Although it is only $4 but I have already brought 3 for Nokia E72
as each time it goes  with missing battery compartment
Neither it has the mini USB connector for handphone
(Later I realised why it is not standardized size)

I saw a bid on hardwarezone for a Energizer battery charger for $45
I hunt around bugis and sim lim for alternative
almost want to buy Energizer as it got different size
1000mAH for $39
2000mAH for $65
and ther other smallest but power 1800mAH sold at $48
(on ground floor biggest accessary shop)
The rest is for iPhone only
(So selfish and arrogant, can not use for other devices)

Then I remember that shop that sold me $4 battery charger on the top floor Indian mama shop.
The boss introduce me Universal USB portable Charger for $39
BUT the battery can charge up to 2800mAh
Boss claim it is the only one which can charge iphone Fully
only thing Boss take away those cable behind

Thought it is from Indian but it indiate it is made in China
Now remind me of my 32Bb thumb drive brought in China when whole world can produce 16Mb

But who care, I will test it out and let you know it will be working !
Only thing I should have brought it in Zhuhai for another set...

redo re-calibrate battery

Here's what one of the developer summed up from all the advices:
1.) Let the battery drain out till the device turns off or there is just 4-5% left indicated
2.) Take out the battery+sim+MicroSD card and wait 30 seconds to 2 minutes
3.) Place it back
4.) Turn on the phone
5.) Plug it in the AC charger
6.) Charge it overnight, once 100% let it charge for 2-3 hours minimum, 8 hours recommended, 12 or more hours for best
7.) Plug out the charger
8.) Turn off the phone
 9.) Wait few seconds
 10.) Put the plug back
11.) If it's charging let it charge until green light+2 minutes. If it's green let it be charged so for extra 2-3 hours
12.) If you have ROOT go to recovery and wipe battery stats.
13.) Reboot 14.) If you had green light turn off and take out battery for 30 seconds - 2 minutes, and wipe stats again. Then charge till 100% again when turned on, and charge till 100% again turned off, then just reboot.
14a.) If you've successfully charged it to 100% and wiped battery stats, try to charge 100% again turned on and again turned off. Just in case. If it's okay continue using the device.
15.) Download Battery Doctor/overcharged and check if the voltage is more then 4150mv. 4197mv is the best = successful. 4150mv-4197mv = quite successful and <4150mv unsuccessful.="unsuccessful.">

So if you really hate your desire's battery life, do all the 15 points. If you're okay with it you can shorten it. These developers really chat a lot as compare to HTCdesireForum
Anyway last night spent to do the first blog method until 2am wake up at 6am to proceed. By 9:30am I thought my sequence is done. Then at 10 am saw this and download overcharged and it is 94% 4084mV I think I have to redo the thorough method tonight while it is for other HTC EVO 4G just would to record it

here as there is another trips from HTC http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=712990
I will be happy to go over various setting with you that will help extend the battery life. Traditionally WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, and display brightness all greatly impact battery performance. With Android 2.1 another feature that can kill your battery are the Live Wallpapers. If you’re using Live Wallpaper just turn if off.

Adjust the Brightness of the display (Menu | Settings | Sound & Display | Brightness). By default it is set to auto adjust but you can manually adjust it down. Consider adjusting the display timeout (Menu | Settings | Sound & Display | Screen Timeout). The default value is 1 minute but you can reduce it to as low as 15 sec but 30 seconds.
By default your HTC Incredible vibrates every time you press a key. Turn it off by un-checking the box ‘Vibrate when typing’. Menu | Settings | Language & Keyboards | Touch Input | Text Input | Vibrate when typing.
If Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Email, App Updates, or many other things are constantly popping notifications, consider turning some of them off as notifications do impact battery performance; This is done in each app.

To also help with Battery Life you can do these steps exactly:
1) Turn your device ON and Charge the device for 8 hours or more
2) Unplug the device and Turn the phone OFF and charge for 1 hour
3) Unplug the device Turn ON wait 2 minutes and Turn OFF and charge for another hour
Your battery life should almost double, we have tested this on our devices and other agents have seen a major difference as well.
Meanwhile there is another suggestions to do this http://forum.xdadevelopers.com/showthread.php?t=701567
Oh no never ending stories ... but maybe it is for HTC EVO

Preparing...
With the phone in the on position. Fully charge the battery with the phone on... (until the led turns green.) Once the led turns green, unplug the charger until the led goes off. After the led goes off, plug the charger back in. When the led turns green , power off the phone. now.... with the phone fully powered off...
1. Unplug the charger.
2. Wait until led goes off.
3. Plug charger back in until the led turns green. When it turns green, unplug the charger again and go to step 1.
4. repeat steps 1 and 3, 10 times.
This may take anywhere from 30 seconds to 30 mins per cycle.
Typically only about 1 minute. though. DO NOT DRAIN THE BATTERY.
The goal is not to empty the battery and recharge like ni-cads (those have memory, these don't). These are lithiums, so we need to do the opposite...
result is Nice. I just noticed that when I unplugged my phone after a full 100% charge, it would drop to 90% just after browsing the web for 2 minutes. So I tried this method, turned my phone back on, unplugged and browsed the web for 2 minutes. Still at 100%.

Last but not least it is this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=701567&page=5

On Saturday night at around 11:30pm I just had my evo charged fully to a 100% and while researching this site I found out while on the dialing keypad if you type *#*#4636#*#* it gets you to the Testing menu. Then I selected "Phone Information" and scroll down to "Set preferred network type" and open that menu and found my setting to be at (CDMA auto (PRL) I then noticed thta there is an option for "CDMA Only" and decided to change my Evo to that setting and press home after which confirmed that it stayed at that setting. After that I went ot sleep and woke in the morning at around 6am because I had to pick someone at the airport and looked at the phone and to my surprise it was sitting at approximately 97% after 5 hours on standby. That was interesting The ping test works too

(one year later I saw an review during GPS optimiser, which stated that
*#*#1472365#*#* will help to configure Samsung II tab but it does not work on viewpad7)

Install on SD card

The day when I install Angry Bird I notice it can be transfer to be install on SD card

Today I learn there is a applications known as App 2 SD
which can scan for application that can be run from SD card

Actually there are few similar applications

Today I did not use much of HTC
so at 9:45pm
the up time is 20:31
Awake is 5:01:24
the battery only half mark

It charge until 1am  the light is still amber

So I can battery charging strategy and charge it
suddenly at 1:05am the LED turn green.

the uptime is 23:55
Awake time is 6:00
Then I switch off to power off to sleep

the power of control

Tonight I spent 2 hours to fill up the GM FM form.pdf
I learn how to edit the form entry field
and insert digitized signature
But then hinder me to insert photo.
which again I spent some time to edit my portrait to right size
and insert as a stamp mark !

After I finished, it was already 11pm and rush home.

Today I received reply from HTC
5. How to track the total incoming/outgoing call time log?
The phone itself does not support this function but you can search the market with call summary for some apps to realize this function

I suddenly realize why i like Android hp or this HTC hp

It give you the freedom to control the way your hp works

I  like the power widget to be able to turn off WiFi, bluetooth etc

So if the application can not perform the job, then find from the Android market

Of course John proudly show his N8 to be able to kill all application with few touches.

I still struggle and maybe will download killer application for trial soon.

Finally got outlook contact over HTC

In the morning, I download Adv phone log and it works
to display call timers
but too bad can not seem to able to output data

I take a while again that there are different version of contacts or people widget

In the evening, I tried to migrate the outlook data over.

Same thing, I have to remove the LAN cable to allow HTC sense to run.
Surprisely, after that HTC sense continue to run by then LAN cable is connected to the laptop
(This is better than OVI)
However, HTC sense will clash once under Help>update is activated.

Seem that HTC sense conflict with proxy or antivirus ?

Anyway, I clear and upload the contact in the Exchange server
Then I do a USB sync
All 974 contacts transfer over HTC include all Chinese Characters and all mobile and fax in the right field

Although Google contact fails to sync with HTC

But today is a great leap to migrate all contacts over HTC
will try MyPhone Explorer another day

Later at night I download an eBook and Angry Bird

Power maintenance

Today I stress my hp again

It take me a while to find the battery under About Phone sub menu

The Up time is about 6hr (or 5Hr 15min)
Awake time is 3hr

The hp drain off at 11:15

suddenly I was searching for font size
Also I wonder why Google Chrome dun have a version for Android

on 13 dec night at 2348

the up time is 22:45
awake time is 11:37:57

The hp drain off at 00:29

I learn there is two build in applications Battery Use and Battery Status
Under Setting > About phone > Battery Status
and those on top are the values registered for past three days

While Battery use seem to show the application that drain the most battery ?
It will show when battery low triggle a screen and option to choose Battery Use
I turn on all and it will show
Cell standby, android system, phone idle, display, bluetooth, WiFi

Or it should be the Applications that are running

Settings>Applications>Manage Applications

Settings>Applications>Running Services

So all these seem not appropriate to demonstrate the right status of the Android power status

I still need to explore more

HTC my first system update 2.13.707.2

I was being prompt for my first system update 2.13.707.2 in the morning

But later I dun know where is the upgrade until I saw the website
http://www.htc.com/www/howto.aspx?id=804&type=1&p_id=312

I activate the upgrading and update is done

This is just for recording purpose

But would advice HTC to teach other green horn like me on such upgrading

As for SingTel, similarly it push AMPED application to me on second day and install on my Desire
Not problem for that

Today as I try to use WiFi and surf  e-IDEA website and was being blocked
Dun quite like the idea to push to use SingTel data services even though it is business wise

re-calibrate battery

today I went out since noon.

I use extensively to demo Desire to my friend

Battery run out very fast, so
I went to look for bluetooth keyboard.
I did make use the chance to charge a little bit

But as I rush home, I did try to shut down some of applications to save.

Just nice the hp completely shutdown

as I charge I read about calibrate the battery
In English ..

1. Power on your Desire then connect to your Charger and Fully charge until the LED changes Green.
2. Disconnect your phone from the charger and then power off.
3. Reconnect your phone to your charger with the power off and wait for the green LED.
4. Disconnect the phone from the charger and power it on.
5. Once the phone has fully booted / ready to use ...  power off again.
6. With the power off connect the phone to the charger and wait for the green LED.
7. Disconnect from the Charger then power on and use normally.

But I dun understand and use back my old method as in the last post
to do drain off and fully charge exercise

I also read further on App killer does not help in saving battery power

But I more concern how  to solve the max number of browser that occur few times today ...

Of which I made use of one $100 vouchers together with singtelshop.com
and buy at 9pm-pam period to gain $30 deduction
(PLEASE WATCH OUT EVERY WEDNESDAY 11AM-2PM FOR FREE HP ON SINGTELSHOP.COM !!)

At the end, I paid $218

At the expense of 24 mth change from i-one plus (w/o data $25) to 3G Flex lite (12G $36)
and have to wait until wednesday 2-5pm to deliver on my office.

I will go Toa Payoh to sell my Nokia E72 for 250 (without box)
So this time, I spent zero dollar and gain some. [Best senario !! ]

But I will spend nett gain of $ 32 on black casing and maybe usb
keyboard casing...

PS: there is always a $100 charge for my only 12 month contract
and some increase as I move to 3G Flexi plan
[Please also take note There is a super SIM plan to get additioanl number without contract]
(If I go singtel hello shop I need to spend net additional $100 for this HTC desire as no voucher )
(To purchase HTC desire Z and desire HD I need to spend $100/$200 even
depending where I purchased as it is the latest models)

I have everything except hopefull HTC will port HTCsense.com on existing Desire HD/Z

Just in case upgrading to Android 3.0

I think I take note of these when I hunt for my new android hp or tablet

However, Gingerbread has minimum requirements like (among others) 1 GHz CPU, 512 MB RAM, and 3.5 inches screen size.

(oh no HTC Desire Z will fail to run on future 3.0)

Android 3.0 "Gingerbread" 4Q Of 2010 Release

Google, according to some Russian source, will release their next Android OS (Android 3.0 or Gingerbread) in fourth quarter (4Q) of 2010. With Google's unique naming conventions on their Android OS, Google's Gingerbread focuses on their user interface (UI). Google tries to encourage universal consistency in the design and to minimize fragmentation.

The talks about "fragmentation" (there are disconnects among products, not streamlined in the way inconsistent in Google's Android OS design, consumer-based interfaces, simplicity, etc) is a criticism among (mostly) Apple lovers because their products are generally consistent (design, architecture and engineering wise). It's true (arguably speaking) that no companies are immune to fragmentation problem. Even Apple has fragmentation on their own. For example, Apple's latest OS is not backward compatible with their older generation iPhones.

Gingerbread features (comparable to current and older OS's) better UI, animations, integrated Google apps, increased speed, and others. However, Gingerbread has minimum requirements like (among others) 1 GHz CPU, 512 MB RAM, and 3.5 inches screen size. Another unfortunate fragmentation since older devices may not be able to run Gingerbread. To Google's credit, fragmentation is not due to the limitation of their Android OS (in fact, manufacturer could profit more because the it's an open-source product or it's free). The fragmentation is the result of different manufacturers with different marketing and business goal interests. They each have different flavors of Android OS. Google is making an effort to make sure that consistency is at the highest priority.

questions why hardware cannot upgrade to android 2.2

Still can not find the reasons yet but

like the able blog and link to the following blog

http://tech.icrontic.com/articles/the-android-2-2-update-what-phones-get-froyo/

It’s been less than a week since Google took FroYo off ice and shipped it ’round the world to a small number of Nexus One users (and the firmware happy), but a big question remains: what phones will make the cut, and when will it happen?

HTC

HTC Corp. was the first to make public their plans for Android’s latest and greatest release. The company confirmed they will “most likely” release Android 2.2 for any handset they’ve launched this year:
[. . .] if your phone was launched this year, we will most likely offer an upgrade for it to the Froyo version. This includes popular models like the Desire and Droid Incredible as well as hotly anticipated phones like the Evo 4G, MyTouch slide and upcoming models. We will announce a full list of phones and dates once we are closer to launching the upgrades. We are working closely with Google and our other partners to ensure we have the earliest access to everything we need to provide a complete and solid Sense experience on Froyo. We expect to release all updates in the second half of this year but can’t be more specific yet.

Phones that make the grade

  • EVO 4G (Qualcomm Snapdragon)
  • Incredible (Qualcomm Snapdragon)
  • Desire (Qualcomm Snapdragon)
  • Nexus One (Qualcomm Snapdragon)
  • Legend (Qualcomm MSM7227)
  • myTouch 3G Slide (Qualcomm MSM7227)

Motorola

Daddy to the Droid, Motorola just confirmed today that its QWERTY-toting offspring will soon be making the jump as well:
We’re excited to see Google’s news of the next version of the Android operating system and look forward to integrating it on our Android-based devices as it’s made available to the open source community.
While I can’t comment on specifics, we do expect DROID by Motorola users will receive Android 2.2 as a software upgrade in the near future.
Some have noted that Motorola’s use of “devices” suggests that mid-range phones like the CLIQ or DEVOUR will follow in the Droid’s footsteps, but we wouldn’t place one red cent on that bet.

Phones that make the grade

  • Droid (Texas Instruments OMAP3430)

Samsung

A perennial also-ran in the Android ecosystem, Samsung has only strengthened their position in this respect by maintaining a stony silence about any upgrade plans they might have.

Sony

Troubled by failures (or an unwillingness; you never know with Sony) to crack the North America’s subsidized phone market, Sony has moved at a glacial pace with their Android handsets. Even though retired models like the Droid Eris have already received Android 2.1, Sony Ericsson said on May 5 that 2.1 won’t hit their flagship XPERIA X10 until the end of this year. That doesn’t leave much hope for Sony customers looking to get a taste of FroYo, but stranger things have happened.

Phones that don’t make the grade

Throughout this article, you’ve undoubtedly noticed that three particular processors keep cropping up: the TI OMAP3430, the Qualcomm Snapdragon and the Qualcomm MSM7227. This list will also include the Qualcomm MSM7230 by the end of the year. Of all the many processors featured in the market’s Android phones to date, only these chips are quick enough to run the Flash 10.1 experience available to Android 2.2.
That means phones like the HTC Droid Eris, T-Mobile G1, HTC Magic, HTC Hero and the Samsung Moment–popular phones all–have more than likely seen their last official firmware update.
Not all is lost, however. The Android community is overflowing with resourceful and dedicated individuals, like Paul “MoDaCo” O’Brien and Steve “Cyanogen” Kondik, who are determined to bring all of Google’s updates to every phone, retired or otherwise. Crafting these unofficial updates takes time, but even venerable devices like the G1 will eventually have their day in FroYo’s sun–if you’re handy with an SD card, that is.

Android

Android

I stop my data services for a while

Yesterday called up my Teleco, Singtel, to stop my data GPRS services for a while

Starting last midnight, I was not able got any push nokia push email services
Though my email is not a lot, but I feel a bit uneasy as it is too silent on the network

I try to pass time by surfing Internet over wifi at my house
But anyway, my wifi services was always not very welll as
my room is far away from the 2wire router.
So I actually use 3G when I am at home

I think I will have to wait for Dec before I can decide on what to buy ?
a hp or a tablet ? or both ?

Then I will continue with the new data plan

Even SingTel has come with a new data plan 3G Flexi which is more uptodate to the market demand
Only thing is that International data roaming is still a long way to lower down the cost

Oh ! I think this in between period will be a drag and challenge to me ...

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2373237,00.asp

But Go to wait for 1Q 2011 but I can not

and there will be a lot more than you think

too bad Acer is slow to bring in netnook
and may be ASUS will be earlier this time too

The Shanzai is doing better in bringing more varieties

If I need to change to a hp, then I may go for HTC desire Z with mini keyboard
The problem with Galaxy lie in the design of USB ...

Nevertheless, Galaxy S is still a better phone than iphone in hardware
Lastly, I really see a trend people are carry two devices at the same times
I am not going to be satified by just i(series) alone ...

Do you all agree ?

Re: MiFi - 3G to Wi-Fi router

Hi all,

Yupz, nowadays, smartphones are able to wifi/bluetooth tether for other devices. My Samsung Galaxy S phone is able to do just that. =) but if that's the case, Galaxy Tab has got a SIM slot too, for mobile broadband on 3G HSDPA.

Cheers,
Alvin

MiFi - 3G to Wi-Fi router

As mentioned, I was excited when I found there is hardware solution
for 3G to wifi router (Mifi)
The product is
Hua Wei 3 mifi e5830

It give non 3G tablet to "tether" 3G phone to use as a wifi spot

You use 3G hp set up as a wifi station
You can then use wifi-only tablet to connect to it - your 3G hp
and you can use enjoy personal wifi where ever you go
(when there is not free wifi)
for details check out
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MiFi
as it works for other hp and ipad too

Next how to connect Archos 7 to 100Mb LAN ...

PS: I have recorded another blog on September on 3G to wifi adaptor
and it take me so long to realise what that solution offer.

Even though people will ask why not just Samsung Tabs
(But unless you can use it as a 24hr carried around hp)

I rather to bring a normal hp and another tablet as option to bring along

This situations already being around for a long time as
I notice there a lot of group of people carring devices of two worlds or more
as in Nokia hp with itouch
and iphone with tablet
and blackberry with ipad etc

Tablet for 2010 / 2011

Tablo Turns a Laptop into a Tablet

Oh I like her, maybe a korean gal, as in the video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7c0yzkphnFg&feature=channel

Er  what I mean I like her company innovation Tablo as you can find review in
http://www.hardwarezone.com.sg/product-guide/view/1158

BTW. I also saw this
I think Tablet computers have been around for the best part of the
last 10 years. I also do believe Apple have a little company called
Axiotron to thank for their iPad inspiration.
Axiotron actual do this
The top segments of the MacBook are removed, which include the
keyboard, LCD screen and iSight camera. A glass screen cover, a new
LCD screen, a sensor board, the original iSight camera and a
chrome-plated magnesium top shell are then installed. This is done
either to a new-from-Apple MacBook or refurnished one.

That's innovation !

Shame to Samsung who came out tablet Q1 3 years ago with foldable
keyboard give it up and then follow back Apple in Galaxy Tab ...
(to me too as I may get a Tab after I did not buy Q1 previously
and end my per-chase of a umpc)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultra-Mobile_PC
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung_Q1
and few company eg OQO has ceased operations

Last but no least tablets for 2010
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCUHnjuM1oQ
and who will has the last laugh

In additional, I like the following website as it is a collection that similar to my wish list
http://www.techgoondu.com/

BTW As for the software, there is a saying
OPERATING SYSTEMS
Google Chrome OS is for Netbooks, Android for Smartphones & Tablets

Lets welcome 2011 android tablets !!

Xiao Fun
